Your mortgage company may have put insurance on your home, but it does not cover you or your property. This coverage is only to protect their investment.   You still need insurance for your liability and property. But the good news is often times when you purchase your own insurance it is cheaper then lender placed insurance and once you have your own, your lender will cancel their insurance. Saving you money.

Tough question to answer. This depends on you. If you had to spend $500 unexpectedly today would that ruin you financially? Or would it just make for a bad day? If you answered it would ruin you, than you lower your deductible until you say it would only ruin your day. But remember the lower the deductible, the higher the premium, So don’t go to low.
